On August 11th 2023, visual evidence provided by the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) indicates the presence of a cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) bloom in the North Pond, Middle Pond, and South Pond of Lake Cochituate.

In all cases, avoid the following:

  • Do not swim
  • Do not swallow water
  • Keep pets away
  • If exposed to the water, people are advised to rinse off after contact. Pets should also be rinsed off if exposed as well.

Signs will be posted at the following access points to warn individuals against contact with the water:

  • Boating Club by Eddy's Park
  • Middlesex Path
  • Pegan Cove
  • Natick Soldier Systems Center
  • Boat ramp to Fiske Pond
  • Fishing docks on West Central Street
  • or at all access points to Lake Cochituate South Pond

The MA Department of Public Health will conduct follow-up sampling at the waterbody when there is no longer visual evidence of a bloom.
