UPDATE: As of Thursday, September 14, 2023, the advisory for Cyanobacteria on Lake Cochituate, including Fiske Pond, have been lifted. No current advisory at this time.
On Friday, August 11, 2023 visual evidence provided by the Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) indicates the presence of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) cells in the Middle and South Ponds of Lake Cochituate at levels that may exceed MDPH guidelines. Accordingly, MDPH is recommending that a cyanobacteria advisory is issued for the Middle and South Ponds and signage be posted at all access points warning against any contact with the water.
