Affordable Housing

The Town of Natick has a strong commitment to affordable housing for its residents and employees. The Department of Community Development monitors affordable  housing throughout the town provided by developers as a result of Massachusetts General Law, or the local zoning bylaw, with regulations upheld by the town’s Zoning and Planning Boards. These housing developments are both for purchase or rental for applicants at or below 80% AMI. Typically the cost of these units precludes applicants below 50% Area Median Income (AMI).  The Natick Housing Authority manages subsidized and public housing for incomes at or below 50% AMI.

Two housing committees, the Natick Affordable Housing Trust (NAHT) and the Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) meet concurrently every month to discuss and advocate for affordable housing. The CDAC is charged with tasks based mostly on the planning and establishment of goals based on Natick demographics and town policy, while overseeing 2 important planning documents, the Natick Housing Plan and the WestMetro HOME Consortium 5-year Consolidated Plan; whereas the Housing Trust is tasked with the development and provision of affordable housing opportunities through the maintenance and expenditure of local Housing Trust funds, and federal HOME funds received through the WestMetro HOME Consortium.
