  1. The Hoopoe Show: Mirth, Mime and Magic

    July 25, 2017, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Something different at the BFL! We’re excited to welcome Chris Yerlig as Hoopoe the clown.

In his show Chris blends silent pantomime comedy, movement illusions, sleight of hand magic tricks and balloon wizardry, to create an original vaudeville show that is funny, imaginative, and full of surprises. The unexpected is to be expected when audience volunteers are invited to join him on stage to assist with illusions. Young and old unite through laughter as they follow the non-verbal antics of this unique performer to their humorous ends. Chris Yerlig is originally from England and began performing on the streets of France and Spain. He has been performing and teaching around the world for over 20 years.

Weather permitting, this event will be on the lawn so bring a blanket!

Join us for a discussion of Life after life : a novel by Kate Atkinson

Summary: “What if you could live again and again, until you got it right? On a cold and snowy night in 1910, Ursula Todd is born to an English banker and his wife. She dies before she can draw her first breath. On that same cold and snowy night, Ursula Todd is born, lets out a lusty wail, and embarks upon a life that will be, to say the least, unusual. For as she grows, she also dies, repeatedly, in a variety of ways, while the young century marches on towards its second cataclysmic world war. Does Ursula’s apparently infinite number of lives give her the power to save the world from its inevitable destiny? And if she can — will she? Darkly comic, startlingly poignant, and utterly original. an author. Theo’s case has never been solved, though Alice still harbors a suspicion as to the culprit. Miles away, Sadie Sparrow, a young detective in the London police force, is staying at her grandfather.
