Notes:
1. Regarding per pupil expenditures, Natick is below the state average and ranks last among the 6 area towns.
2. Regarding average teacher salaries, Natick is below the state average and ranks last among the 6 area towns.
3. Regarding the % of students who are ELL, or Limited English and/or Special Needs, the only area town that has a higher combined % is Framingham.
Chairman Wynn pointed out that the School Committee has been discussing this budget for the past few months at great lengths and this dollar amount is the best that can be done at this point in time to fulfill the needs of the system. He stated that the Natick School Committee will be supporting the “Yes for Natick” override support group to the extent that it can, legally. Chairman Wynn requested that the School Committee reaffirm its budget amount. Mr. Coburn moved for approval to reaffirm the School Committee’s budget in the amount of $43,474,430. Ms. Blanchard seconded. It was approved by a vote of 5-0.
MISCELLANEOUS
Dr. Keefe announced that Ms. Nora Pou, Principal of the Bennett-Hemenway School, alerted him that she will be pursuing other educational opportunities as of July 1, 2008.
Dr. Keefe discussed the fact that a question has been asked regarding a meeting that the Natick High School Logo Taskforce held on January 10, 2008. The question is related to the requirement of the Open Meeting Law. To resolve the question, Dr. Keefe recommends that the School Committee direct him to manage a subsequent meeting of the Task Force to allow its members to discuss in a duly posted setting the rationale behind their recommendation and to vote the Task Force’s recommendation publicly. Mr. Meyler moved for approval. Ms. Zernicke seconded. The motion carried by a vote of 5-0.
At 9:25 p.m., Mr. Meyler moved to adjourn. Mr. Coburn seconded. It was unanimously approved.
