FAQ
When I call 911 for an ambulance, why is a fire truck sent as well?

All members of the Natick Fire Department possess some degree of emergency medical training from First Responder, EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, to EMT Paramedic. In a medical emergency minutes seconds count! The response of the closest  piece of fire apparatus to your emergency brings trained firefighter/ EMTs and paramedics to the scene within minutes. Emergency life saving equipment such as oxygen, semi-automatic defibrillators, and medications such epinephrine for allergic reactions and aspirin for heart attacks are also carried on the trucks for use by these trained firefighters.

I’m selling my house, why do I need to have my smoke detectors inspected? Where should they be located?

Massachusetts General Law Chapter 148 Section 26F requires that all buildings or structures occupied in whole or in part for residential purposes upon sale or transfer, be equipped by the seller with approved smoke detectors.
In residences built prior to 1975 smoke detectors may be of the battery operated type and should be located on each habitable level including basements and finished attics.
If a single level has an area in excess of 1200sf, a second smoke detector is required remote from the first.
For additional information on detector placement or to find out how to arrange for an inspection, see Smoke Detectors.

When am I allowed to burn brush outdoors?

The State Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) allows open burning to be conducted between January 15th and May 1st of each year between the hours of 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. For more information on open burning rules and regulations, see Open Burning.

How can I get rid of this old propane tank from my barbeque grill?

There is no site or business in the Town of Natick that will accept these old tanks for disposal. They will not be accepted at the recycling center or at any fire station, nor will they be picked up by curb-side rubbish collectors on your scheduled collection day. However, there are some propane distribution businesses in surrounding cities and towns that will accept and dispose of your old propane tank for a small fee. One such company that has locations in and around Natick is Blue Rhino

What is the best type of fire extinguisher for my home?

A multi-purpose fire extinguisher is best for the home. Look for the rating to be at least 2A 10B C on the label. This extinguisher can be used on any type of fire commonly found in the home. It will often be labeled A-B-C. It is recommended that extinguishers be installed in the kitchen and in the garage.
