It is the Town’s intent to utilize the funds raised by Natick’s Boston Marathon runners to support local projects, programs and services to benefit Natick residents. The Town of Natick has selected the following non-profit organizations to receive funding from this years marathon:
Justin Bailey Memorial Scholarship – Justin Bailey, a 17 year-old senior at Natick High School, passed away unexpectedly in January 2012. The Natick High School Hockey Alliance has established a scholarship in Justin’s memory, to be awarded annually to a student athlete who will continue their education and who exemplifies the team principles of loyalty, dedication, and selflessness.
The Michael & Jerry Stanhope Memorial Scholarship Fund - The Stanhope Memorial fund is named after a friend and fellow Natick Firefighter, Jerry Stanhope and his son Michael. Michael attended the Respite Center in 1998 after his mother passed. Michael has severe disabilities and passed way from cancer in 2001. Shortly after Michael's death, Jerry passed from the same cancer that claimed his son. In 2003 the Memorial fund was created to honor Jerry and his son to help other families in need. The Michael Lisnow Respite Center provides care for children and adult with disabilities. The Stanhope Memorial Fund helps this center give free or reduced cost care to those individuals.
Brian MacIsaac Foundation - Brian MacIsaac lost his son (also named Brian) at the age of 24 to a rare pediatric bone cancer called Ewing's sarcoma. They established a foundation and a web site, to raise awareness of and provide funding for sarcoma research. Brian was a lifelong resident of Natick and graduate in 2003, he was captain of the hockey team, all star in football and voted most artistic and best personality in his senior class. His father (now in his 60th year) is running the Boston Marathon this year to honor his son's memory.
Natick Service Council - For 50 years, NSC has served Natick's most vulnerable and economically disadvantaged residents who earn up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Line. NSC is an advocacy, referral, case management, and information center serving the most economically disadvantaged members of the Natick Community. They help clients meet basic needs for food, housing, and health care with the goal of promoting self-sufficiency. They are guided by the motto "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" and serve our fellow community members with dignity, compassion, and confidentiality.
Embrace A Family - Embrace A Family (EAF) is a committee of the Rotary Club of Natick which strives to help individuals and families in Natick who are battling cancer. Their goal is to support families in Natick who incur overwhelming hardships due to a cancer diagnosis. Funds donated to EAF god directly to providing for Natick residents who require the unique resources that cancer patients encounter. They have provided financial support for non-medical expenses such as transportation to and from doctor's appointments, groceries, a dietician for a stem cell transplant patient on a restricted diet, child care, utility bill assistance, gas cards, parking, housecleaning, wigs, scares and skull caps, movie tickets for the whole family and other expenses that can help ease the strain on a family.
Natick Education Foundation - The NEF has been in existence since the early 1990s and has been guided by a vision of leveraging the strength of the community on behalf of children. NEF raises money from membership dues, corporate and individual donations, grants, and several fund-raising activities throughout the year. The money raised is turned back to the Natick public schools each year through the grant programs, professional development funding and high school scholarships. In addition to grants, NEF recognizes the importance of people who make education work in Natick through their annual Shining Light Award. They also give the NEF Educator Shining Light Award and the NEF Community Business Shining Light Award.
