National Recovery Month 2017

National Recovery Month 2017

The Town of Natick is proud to announce its participation in National Recovery Month 2017. National Recovery Month is an annual observance across the United States that recognizes the millions of everyday Americans who are in recovery from mental health and substance use disorders. The 2017 theme is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Strengthen Families and Communities.”

Natick residents are encouraged to celebrate National Recovery Month by participating in some of the events that are happening locally and around the state throughout the month of September:

  • Stop by the Morse Institute Library during its regular operating hours to find recommended reading and resource information about addiction and recovery on display.
  • Check out the “Hidden in Plain Sight” exhibit at Natick Days on September 9th, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM on the Natick Common. This mock-up of a young person’s bedroom provides examples of items that could be signs of substance use and includes educational information for parents about teen development. (Due to the sensitive nature of the material display, individuals must be 21+ years old to go through the exhibit.)
  • Hidden in Plain Sight is sponsored by the Natick Opioid Task Force, Natick Together for Youth, SOAR Natick (Supporting Our Addicts’ Recovery), and The Journey Bereavement Group, and made possible through partnership with the Natick Rotary Club.
  • Watch Natick Pegasus to catch the latest episode of Conversations about the opioid crisis and how it impacts Natick residents.
  • Attend the “Understanding Addiction” workshop at on September 18th at 6:30 PM at the Natick Community Senior Center, and stay afterwards to get trained to carry Narcan (which will be distributed at the training). Participants can also connect with local treatment providers and learn about local support services for individuals who experience substance use disorders and their loved ones. (Those who want to be trained in Narcan should contact Katie Sugarman at 508-647-6623 or in order to provide a headcount for training purposes. No personal or identifying information will be requested.)
  • Join the statewide Recovery Month celebration on September 20th at 9:00 AM at City Hall Plaza in Boston. The Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery (MOAR) will host a rally with recovery speakers, state legislators and community leaders, followed by a walk to Quincy Market. The afternoon will feature performances and visual art displays by artists in recovery. Go to for more information.
