New 6-month contract will provide savings and will match Eversource Basic Service price schedule
Natick, MA. Natick’s electricity aggregation program price will move below Eversource Basic service in January 2017 to 9.65 ¢/kWh for all customer types. The new price represents a significant reduction of 3.67 ¢/kWh below the current residential program price, and is nearly seven percent lower than the Eversource Basic Service proposed winter residential rate (10.318 ¢/kWh). The new price will go into effect for program participants beginning with January 2017 meter reads. The lower price is the result of a 6-month contract between Natick and a new electricity supplier for the program, NextEra Energy Services. Program participants can be assured of savings for the duration of this contract because neither the contract price nor Eversource pricing will change during the contract period.
Participants will see the new price under Supplier charges on their February 2017 Eversource bill, which covers electricity use in January. The new price applies to all rate classes, including residential, small business, and medium and large business accounts.
Customers who are currently enrolled in the program under the Town’s existing contract with ConEdison Solutions will be automatically enrolled under the new contract, as will any new Eversource Basic Service customer. Customers who have their own supplier agreement or chose to opt out of Natick’s previous aggregation can call NextEra Energy Services at 1-855-259-1181 to opt in. Any Natick customer can opt in or opt out of the program with no penalty, at any time.
By bulk purchasing electricity for the entire community through this program, Natick is working to reduce electricity costs, educate customers about their electricity supplier options, and provide participants with greater control and confidence over the price and environmental characteristics of the electricity they use.
The program offers two alternatives to Eversource Basic Service:
The new prices will be in effect from the January 2017 meter reads through July 2017 meter reads. When the NextEra Energy Services electricity supply contract ends, Natick will have the choice to either negotiate a new electricity supply contract or return all program participants to Eversource Basic Service.
