The Town of Natick has hired a consultant to develop a Conceptual Design Study Report for the proposed Cochituate Rail Trail, a proposed 4 mile multiuse trail from Natick Center to Saxonville in Framingham. The report will identify and address issues and concerns relating to the project, including:
Existing site conditions
Potential project impacts
Access and parking
Construction cost estimates
Public comments and questions are welcome so that they are reflected in this report. Please send your comments and questions by email or send them to the CRT Advisory Committee, c/o Board of Selectmen, 13 East Central Street, Natick MA 01760. The Committee requests that public input be submitted no later than Friday, December 11 so that it may be incorporated into the final draft in December 2009. The report will be reviewed at a public meeting of the CRT Advisory Committee to be posted on the Town’s web calendar and with the office of the Town Clerk.
Funding for the Conceptual Design Study and for all Natick work on the CRT to date has been provided by mitigation funds negotiated with the developers of the Natick Mall Expansion Project specifically for the CRT.
Subsequent to this report, the Town may conduct additional research to further the design in order to qualify for outside funding, while the Town also negotiates with CSX Transportation about potential acquisition of the right-of-way. Decisions about whether and how to proceed with this project will be made in public meetings of the Advisory Committee, the Board of Selectmen and other boards and committee as required.
